With Prefab construction and steel structures taking prominence in the new age construction sector. Innovations in the warehousing industry have led to massive adoptions in Prefab technologies such as Rack Supported Buildings. Taking inspiration from the warehousing and prefab technologies how could we explore modular portable solutions using recycled industrial materials for new age Emerging needs for housing solutions. The case study would talk about several bottom up innovative projects for the marginalized sections which could trickle up for ancillary space needs in urbanizing cities. The concept involves using modular framing systems like a giant erector set, life size meccano or lego housing. This inspires out of the box thinking to reduce labour, time and material costs and uses frugal innovation which could potentially address rapid urbanization and transit space needs using a light, quick and cheap (LQC) approach.

Shashidhar Sharma is a civil Engineer from Delhi, with more than two decades of management experience in the field of office Interiors. He was regional head for Haworth and national head for Herman Miller – Global modular furniture manufacturers. He has joined Cushman & Wakefield in Regional Business Development role.

He is also a best selling author of two books with “Songs of the Mist” ranking 29th at Amazon in year 2016. Speaker Profile
He has 8 years corporate experience as senior systems Aerospace engineer and team lead with Honeywell Technologies and Infosys. 2 years working with social sector as Program Manager, Built Environment with Selco foundation and volunteer for social organisations and NGO’s. Currently Founder of Pop-Up Housing (2015)– He has Researched, conceptualized and devised simple modular housing system solutions using readily available recyclable  industrial materials like slotted angle frames and modular framing systems.
He has an Executive general management program from IIM Lucknow and trainings in building technologies and social entrepreneurship. He is also internationally certified yoga teacher, an active volunteer with NGOs and social projects and part time faculty with the Art of Living foundation.
His work on > Pop-Up housing was awarded top ten innovative projects by MIT kumbhathon at Nasik Kumbhmela 2015. Sampath mostly does these projects as open source, passion projects and regularly conducts workshops, talks and exhibits for colleges, maker groups, DIY Enthusiasts, Maker fests and social innovation events.
